General Office Building - Conservation Garden Update

Important Updates on General Office Building – Conservation Garden Update

Education is one of the most valuable resources we have when it comes to conserving water in our local communities and service areas. With that idea, Magna Water District is pleased to announce the renovation of the conservation garden at our general office. This project will provide enhanced educational resources and real-world examples of water-wise landscaping, helping community members learn more about sustainable water conservation practices.

Project Insights:

  • Objective: Provide improved signage and update garden with updated materials, examples, and improved water smart landscaping.
  • Progress Report: Currently at 100% design.
  • What’s Next: Once the project is bid the contractor will complete the update. More information to come as we continue forward with this project. See images below of the updated signage.

WRF Operations Building - Change House

Important Updates on WRF Operations Building- Change House

As our infrastructure continues to grow and expand, the need for additional employees and enhanced workplace facilities grows as well. Unfortunately, our current infrastructure does not adequately support our operators and collections crews. The existing operations building, constructed in 1963, clearly reflects its age. Limited space, an outdated layout, and the condition of the structure itself have made the construction of a new operations building necessary.

This new facility will provide our operators and crews with a modern, efficient workspace designed to better support their daily responsibilities. It will also offer improved amenities and a more comfortable work environment, creating a facility that our employees both need and deserve.

Project Insights:

  • Objective: Provide our operators and collection crews with a more efficient, comfortable, and overall improved working space.
  • Progress Report: We are currently completing the building permit process with the land use permit to follow. The bid process has also been completed and the contractor will soon begin initial site work.
  • What’s Next: Initial site work like grubbing and mobilization as we wait for the permitting process to complete. After that we should be on our way to complete this project. We anticipate the full completion of the project to be by late summer to early fall of 2027.

Westside Collections System Phases 2 & 3

Important Update on Westside Collections System Phase 2 & 3 Design

We are pleased to announce the continuation of the expansion of our Westside Collections System with the design of Phase 2 and Phase 3. This project will help increase the capacity of our sewer collection system to accommodate growing wastewater flows.

The project will achieve this by upsizing sections of the existing collection system pipeline while also replacing aging infrastructure that could develop leaks and other operational issues over time. These improvements will help ensure the long-term reliability and efficiency of the collection system.

Phase 2 and 3 of this project will take place along SR-201 and 8400 W. Please see the images below for the specific project locations.

Project Insights:

  • Objective: Replace existing system pipeline with a new upsized pipeline that will provide greater capacity for future wastewater flows.
  • Progress Report: Both projects are currently in the design phase. Phase 2 is at 95% design while Phase 3 is at 60% design.
  • What’s Next: Once both project designs are completed the project will be put out for bid with a bid opening to determine a contractor for the project. We anticipate that construction will not begin until early 2027. See images below for project locations.

Westside Collections System Phase 1B

Important Update on Westside Collections System Phase 1B

We are excited to announce the continuation of the Westside Collections System Phase 1B project. The project was initially put on hold after the discovery of a fiber-optic utility line that conflicted with the planned pipeline installation. This unexpected obstacle required us to revisit the design and determine a new approach for installing the pipeline beneath SR-201.

Fortunately, the design has now been revised, allowing construction to move forward. One of the most interesting aspects of this phase of the project is the use of a boring machine, which will enable the pipeline to be installed beneath SR-201 with minimal disruption to traffic and roadway operations.

We are pleased to see this important project moving ahead and look forward to its successful completion.

Project Insights:

  • Objective: Improve our Westside collection system by installing large diameter pipes that will prepare for predicted increases in wastewater flows.
  • Progress Report: Project has been partially complete with the installation of the sewer line and manholes along 8000 west. The final portion of this project is the installation of the new sewer line going under SR-201. We are currently in the mobilization and permiting phase.
  • What’s Next: Installation of the new pipeline. This will cause traffic disturbances as this line is completed. Please see the image below for the project location. There will be more images and updates to come regarding the schedule but as of today we anticipate the boring and installation will be complete by early to late winter of 2026.

Zone 3 Secondary Water Reservoir

Important Update on Zone 3 Secondary Water Reservoir

With the continued expansion of our secondary water system and the recent completion and success of the Reuse Water Project, there is a growing need for additional redundancy and storage capacity within our secondary water system. We are proud to report the development of a new secondary water storage reservoir. This reservoir will help provide a reliable water supply to Pressure Zone 3 of our system.

Project Insights:

  • Objective: Construct a new secondary water reservoir to provide a more reliable supply of secondary water to the portion of our community located within Pressure Zone 3.
  • Progress Report: The reservoir has been fully constructed. See the images below to compare what the site looked like initially and what the completed reservoir looks like today.
  • What’s Next: The next step is to fill the reservoir. Due to ongoing development along 4100 W and additional system fine-tuning, we anticipate the reservoir will be filled by mid- to late August.

Construction of WWTP Influent Pump Station

Important Update on Construction of WWTP Influent Pump Station

We are excited to share progress on the construction of the new Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Influent Pump Station. As our community continues to grow, we are proactively investing in infrastructure improvements to meet future wastewater treatment needs.

The project includes replacing the existing chopper pump influent system with a modern screw pump system, which will increase capacity, improve reliability, and reduce energy consumption and operating costs. In addition, a new grit removal building, and new grit removal equipment are being constructed to improve the efficiency of grit removal from incoming wastewater, helping to optimize plant performance and support long-term service to the community.

Project Insights:

  • Objective: Replace our aging chopper pump and grit washer systems with a more efficient screw pump and grit washer system that provides greater capacity to accommodate increasing influent flows.
  • Progress Report: The screw pumps have been installed and are fully operational. Construction of the grit building has been completed, with only outdoor site restoration and floor coating work remaining. See the images below showing the installed screw pumps, both with and without their covers, as well as the grit building and its newly installed grit washers.
  • What’s Next: The remaining work includes removing the existing chopper pumps, completing yard piping connections, finishing the East Grit Chamber to enable upgrades to the West grit chamber, installing guardrails at the new pump station, and continuing equipment testing and optimization. We anticipate the project will be completed in the early fall of 2026.

Haynes Well #8 Replacement

Important Update on Haynes #8 Well Project

We're excited to bring you the latest developments on the Haynes #8 Well Replacement project. As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the highest quality of water supply to our community, the existing Haynes #8 Well will be abandoned and replaced with a new well. This project will enhance our water system's reliability and safety, and is made possible through the support of an EPA Community Grant.

Project Insights:

  • Objective: The replacement of the old Haynes #8 Well with a new well is a move to improve our water supply infrastructure. This new well is designed to meet the increasing demand for water and comply with the latest health and safety standards, thereby securing a safe, reliable water supply for both homes and businesses.
  • Progress Report: The drilling of the new well has begun. On July 9th the pilot hole for the well has been drilled. The pilot hole well will help finalize a design of the well and well structure. See the images below which show the drill rig and drill pipe on site.
  • What’s Next: We anticipate the well to be fully drilled and installed this fall. We then will move on to construction of the pump house. Our team is working diligently to ensure that the new well integrates seamlessly into our existing water treatment and distribution system.
